A palatable source of elemental zinc supplement for dogs and cats.
Customers say
Customers find the zinc supplement effective, particularly for Huskies, with one noting it helps with skin and digestive conditions. Moreover, the product receives positive feedback for its quality and ability to clear up skin problems, with one customer reporting their dog’s itching stopped within the first week. However, customers have mixed opinions about the size, with one mentioning the discs are too big for pill pockets. Additionally, the product has several drawbacks: customers report their dogs refuse to eat it and experience vomiting, while the smell is described as horrendous. The taste and value for money also receive negative feedback, with customers describing the taste as horrible and finding it pricy.

Still going strong!
I can’t believe my EXTREMELY picky husky has eaten these three days in a row… that’s right, the girl who won’t eat dog treats (just politely takes them and places them on the ground) actually consumes these. Now, they do have a bit of a garlic scent, and your dog may not like that, but my girl has had no problems (note: garlic is only very mildly toxic to dogs, damaging red blood cells much in the way that onions do… but at these levels it is nothing your dog can’t compensate for…seriously, the zinc would be more toxic than the garlic contents). She also has a very sensitive stomach and I’ve been surprised to find that she has had no problems so far (crossing fingers!). She was diagnosed with zinc-responsive dermatosis after some non-healing lesions on her lip/face failed to respond to antibiotics and my crook-of-a-vet suggested a $800 biopsy under sedation… I should have done some reading, zinc-deficiency from low absorption is a common problem of old age (she’s 11) for northern breeds. The degree of absorption defect is unknown and not measurable (zinc blood levels poorly reflect zinc status, as it is sequestered in tissues), and zinc supplements have a reputation for upsetting stomachs. This is why I am currently at half the starting dose for the first week, we will then proceed with the recommended dose for four weeks before considering a further increase in accordance with veterinary guidelines. I will add more info in a few weeks after we’ve given her skin a chance to respond to the additional zinc.UPDATE: Months later, 1 tab on most days (I sometimes forget…) and her lesions are significantly better. She still has no problem eating this supplement. I do break up the pills and add them to her food (takes a bit of effort). Zinc is required the certain enzymes that break down collagen and elastin in injured tissues (matrix metalloproteinases …look it up!). Zinc is very important for good health and proper healing of even minor irritations, scratches, scrapes, wounds. Consider this inexpensive supplement if your northern-breed dog has skin problems!

The fix for my dog’s skin problems.
I have a siberian husky who has been stuck in a cone for months due to itching. After being told by my vet that my dog’s skin issues were due to allergies, and not having ANY change after giving her allergy medicine and changing her food, I looked for alternatives. ZRD or Zinc Responsive Dermatitis is actually relatively common in northern breeds, but can happen in other breeds as well. Many vets are not aware of it though. I had seen pictures of dogs suffering from ZRD with the sores around their mouths and eyes but discounted ZRD as the problem with my dog because she had general itching all over, and her hair loss was mostly on her underside. After she just kept getting worse, I did more research. Although it USUALLY presents as hair loss around the mouth and eyes, it can also be hair loss/itching in other sensitive areas like armpits or the genital area! The only way to test for ZRD is to do a skin biopsy, so I chose to just get the Zinc supplements and see if they had an effect. After one week, I started seeing less hair loss. After 2 she lost some of her itchy spots (she was so bad just petting her back got her legs thumping). It has now been a little over a month since we started and she is only slightly itchy. Hair has grown back in some areas that have been bald for months. It is such a relief to finally know what caused her itchiness and how to fix it.In regards to taste, my dog gives it 0 out of 5 stars however. The discs are too big to fit in pill pockets, so I grind them up into a powder with a pestle and mix it in some wet food. My dog is EXTREMELY picky with food though, so your mileage may vary.

They’re ok
While my husky is mostly reluctant to take any of her zinc, the refusal of these versus softer zinc treats isn’t unusual. I do like the size of the tablets. They absorb salmon oil well to help garner interest of the pup.

Look pass the smell!!
Alrighty y’all, this stuff is amazing! I have a rescue dog and didn’t know much about her background until recently when I ran a DNA test on her. 3 years of countless vet trips for the SAME issues. I started looking into some of the symptoms she was having because I was 120% over the vets telling me that she had “allergies”. Recently finding out she is an American Staffordshire Terrier, Alaskan Malamute, Boxer mix, I stumbled upon ZRD by mistake and found that she had every symptom on the list. I quickly purchased these tablets and since she has been taking them (4 a day , 82 pounds) her leisure’s, her redness, her dry skin, has cleared up 100%. She used to get scabs all over, as of the past 2 weeks, she has completely cleared up, no scabs have appeared. Her belly is now a shade of pink, as oppose to bright red.I am so grateful for these tablets. I have been purchasing allergies medicine for the past few years and nothing has helped and I have been paying about 80 dollars a month just for the medication, so I personally am not mad about the price point on these bad boys. The smell is HORRENDOUS, she does not eat these straight I cook my girl salmon for the week and will mix it in usually, on the days she doesn’t eat salmon as a mid day snack, I will place the tablets at the back of her throat and rub her throat neck area so she doesn’t spit them out. I highly recommend these and I will be repurchasing them whenever we start to run low.

Dogs refuse to eat.
This may be a better product for zinc, but both my dogs refuse to eat them.
